Green and White Irish Chain

This is a stunning example of a classic Irish Chain quilt in the rare color combination of green and white! It is a large piece that has been stitched entirely by hand.

The quilting is an eye-catching circular motif! The stitches are small and measure 9 SPI.

This large quilt measures 73.5 x 86.5 inches. It is a light-to-medium weight with cotton batting and a green backing!

The composition of this quilt was interesting to study. The quilter hand appliqued four small green blocks to every white block. This kept the pieced blocks a uniform size and the applique squares kept the overall chain pattern flowing correctly. It is not a normal composition for an Irish Chain but it adds charm to the piece!

CONDITION

This quilt is in great vintage condition! There is a slight mark or two on the front. A few blocks show some slight yellowing. The back contains a bleach mark and a large area of discoloration where the bleach may have lightened the green. The binding is in great shape. Overall, this has been beautifully preserved and would be a lovely addition to your collection!
