This primitive quilt is full of antique calicos that date back to the late 1800s. The turkey red hexagon is vibrant! It is a beautiful example of the iconic color found in so many great antique quilts.
The antique calico fabrics used to surround the hexagon measure approximately 1.5 inches by 2 inches. It has a beautiful array of rare calicos.
The sashing of this quilt was most likely a fugitive blue or teal. There are traces of the dye left; however, what remains is primarily tan. Both dark thread and white were used for the quilting. The binding was hand stitched in place with dark thread. A small section of the binding is done in blue plaid. This is a clue that supports our theory that the sashing and binding were once blue.
This quilt measures 72 x 83 inches. It is a light-to-medium weight quilt with cotton batting and a cream backing.
This quilt is in good antique condition! There are 3-4 small holes on the front of the quilt that do not go through the piece. A few fabrics show some dye rot where the batting is exposed. The back shows some tanning and spots from age. Overall, this a stunning antique quilt that has been incredibly preserved.
Please note, every attempt is taken to detail imperfections in photos, descriptions, and video. The nature of this item does lend itself to normal age-related issues and must be taken into consideration before purchasing.
This quilt will be sold as-is. Machine washing is not recommended.
