This historical piece is beautifully constructed! The intricate applique has been amazing to study. The cutout florals are small and perfectly shaped. The applique stitches are tiny and numerous. The ribboned sashing, rounded edges, and overall style and dyes are indicative of a mid-to-late 1800s piece.
The faded light blue is paired with an overdyed green. Blue and yellow dyes were combined to create the green in this piece. Some of the blue has faded away in this over-dyed concoction leaving a stronger yellow dye in places.
This binding style is rare. I believe it is a corded binding. There is a machine stitch along the cord, but hand stitched with the one-inch excess.
This quilt measures 89 x 91 inches. It is a medium-weight piece with cotton batting and a solid white back.
This quilt is in good antique condition. There are multiple obvious stains throughout the front and back. A few snags in the fabric were found but overall, the integrity of the fabric is sound. It does not feel fragile. There is one tiny hole through that looks like a small burn mark. The binding is in good shape for its age.
Please note, every attempt is taken to detail imperfections in photos, descriptions, and video. The nature of this item does lend itself to normal age-related issues and must be taken into consideration before purchasing.
This quilt will be sold as is and was not washed. Machine washing is not recommended.
