A variation of the log cabin, this pattern is known as ‘Courthouse Steps’. The blocks on this piece are tiny with the center blocks measuring ¾ inch by ¾ inch.
The composition of this quilt has been interesting to study. The blocks were completed with batting and backing and then stitched together. You can see from the back that it was pieced in this manner. The binding was stitched by machine. The quilting stitches cannot be seen from the front of the quilt, only on the back.
The calicos represent fabrics from the late 1800s/early 1900s. Double pinks, early greens, and a wonderful array of browns are included in this quilt. The deep reds and blues are a staple in many of the blocks giving it a patriotic feel!
This quilt measures 76.5 x 78 inches. It is a light-weight quilt with a white backing. I don’t feel any batting in this quilt. This piece was procured from a long-time collector in Colorado who had an amazing eye for high quality and rare quilts!
This quilt is in great antique condition! Throughout the front and back, there are tan marks that appear to be from fugitive brown dyes. While the white fabric is very bright and crisp, the tanning from the brown dyes can be seen upon close inspection. There are a few round stains on the quilt that have not been treated. Two small seam separations were found.
Please note, every attempt is taken to detail imperfections in photos, descriptions, and video. The nature of this item does lend itself to normal age-related issues and must be taken into consideration before purchasing.
This quilt will be sold as-is and was not washed. Machine washing is not recommended.
